9 Mui Tsz Lam Story House

Signage Content

The Story House was converted from a restored village house, showcasing everyday items of the old days and precious old photos of villagers from Mui Tsz Lam and the nearby Kop Tong. It documents the villages' history and promotes Hakka culture. The Story House includes an activity space for hosting thematic exhibitions and workshops, fostering interaction and collaboration across different sectors, aiming for a sustainable urban-rural symbiosis.

The abandoned terrace fields deep in Mui Tsz Lam, have been transformed into Hong Kong's first campsite that integrates ecological conservation, village revitalisation, and forest experiences.

The Cattle House | Mural and Sustainable Community Hub

The exterior wall of the story house features an eye-catching brown cattle mural, making the 'Cattle House' a deeply symbolic landmark and a must-visit spot in the village. Beyond hosting exhibitions and guided tours, it also serves as a community base for the 'Forest Village' sustainability initiative.

Mandarin Orchard | The Legacy and Revival of a New Year Mandarin Industry

In the 1960s to 1970s, Mui Tsz Lam thrived as a producer of New Year mandarins. During harvest seasons, villagers transported fresh mandarins to the city for sale, generating substantial income. However, the local mandarin industry declined with the rise of imported mandarins from Chinese Mainland.

Later, with the support of the Countryside Conservation Funding Scheme and under the leadership of the Village Representative of Mui Tsz Lam, villagers and volunteers worked together to replant mandarin trees and rehabilitate the fields, igniting hope for the village's broader revival.

Forest Village Campsite | Ecological Conservation and Wilderness Experience

Funded by the Countryside Conservation Funding Scheme, a project organisation rehabilitated Mui Tsz Lam's abandoned terraced fields, transforming the village into Hong Kong's first campsite that integrates ecological conservation, countryside revitalisation, and forest experiences. It not only breathes new life into the village but also offers the public diverse opportunities for in-depth local exploration.

Carambola Jam | Traditional Fruit Aroma and Healthy Delights

Many old carambola trees in the village stand as witnesses to the passage of time. Today, villagers and the project organisation use the fruits from these trees, combined with organic fragrant lemons, to produce a unique jam. This initiative not only helps preserve traditional fruit trees but also develops agricultural products with health benefits and local characteristics, allowing visitors to savour the authentic flavours of the village.
