From Valley to Plain: An Introduction to Agricultural History
The villagers of Kuk Po have made their living by farming since they arrived in the area. They took advantage of Kuk Po's geographic location and used traditional wisdom to cultivate farmland around the sea to increase food production and meet the demand for food brought about by the growing population. Through years of farming experience, the villagers of Kuk Po have developed their own set of farming methods, which have been passed on to the next generations. This includes knowledge of the crops, observations of the seasonal weather, the use of resources, and so on. Although the arable land in Kuk Po is now deserted, we can still find some traces of farming in the past.
The report (Chinese version only), written by the Department of Geography and Resource Management of the Chinese University of Hong Kong, introduces the history of agricultural development in Kuk Po and enlightens the readers about the history of the local agricultural activities. Finally, it also discusses the sustainable development of agriculture by making references to the past.
