Siu Tan

Siu Tan ("小灘"also known as "兆灘") was one of the seven villages under Hing Chun Alliance. Originally settled by a branch of the Tsang clan from Lai Chi Wo, it was home to around 20 to 30 residents before the 1960s, who primarily farmed salt-tolerant rice. As agriculture declined, villagers gradually moved away. In the 1970s, the paddy fields were converted into fish ponds, adopting a brackish-water aquaculture model. By the 1980s, the fish farming industry waned, leaving the ponds abandoned and the village houses deserted. Today, only four village houses remain, with the scattered fish ponds blending into the tranquil natural landscape, silently bearing witness to the changes in rural history.
