


Towards Sustainable and Inclusive Conservation and Revitalisation in Hing Chun Yeuk Seven Villages, Kuk Po and Fung Hang, Hong Kong
Project Description
The project has developed comprehensive revitalisation plans and implementation strategies for the Hing Chun Yeuk Seven Villages, as well as Kuk Po and Fung Hang through various research activities. The main research activities included evaluating global policies and practices in rural conservation and revitalisation, conducting a comprehensive analysis of development history, population structure, land use, transportation accessibility, infrastructure, environmental sensitivity, ecology, and historical and cultural values. Besides, they also included assessing the potential for revitalisation, formulated guidelines for balancing economic vitality, community participation, ecological conservation, historic and cultural preservation, community and public services, proposed short-term, medium-term, and long-term specific goals, and detailed planning for ecotourism, educational and experiential tourism, organic agriculture, and leisure services, to rediscover the cultural and ecological values of these nine villages as part of a planning vision and to contribute to the vibrancy and long-term sustainability of the region.

Project Outcome
Published "Case Studies Booklet - A Global Survey of Rural Best Practices," "Yan Chau Tong Villages Concept Plan," and "Yan Chau Tong Villages Action Plan" to identify the local situation and future development potential of Yan Chau Tong area, and formulated planning strategies for the revitalisation of the area. These publications could benefit long-term regional development of the area and other parts of Hong Kong’s countryside towards the goal of sustainable and inclusive countryside revitalisation.
Promoted the ecological and cultural values of Yan Chau Tong area through organising various public activities, including the "Yan Chau Tong Nine Villages Tourism Festival", public forums and workshops, and "Symposium on Countryside Conservation and revitalisation", which fostered the connection of different stakeholders to engage in the discussion on revitalisation.
