"Villages Get Together": Connecting Rural, Urban, and Regional Areas Through Culture
Project Description
Building on the outcomes of the “Co-Building Kuk Po: Creating, Sharing, Learning & Enjoying” project, completed in March 2025, the project organisation will first establish the “Kai Choi Modern School” to engage and empower villagers on village revitalisation. Additionally, a “Twin Villages” programme will be created to strengthen inter-village connections and systematically preserve Kuk Po cultural heritage. Through urban exhibitions, pop-up stores, and local and online international countryside exchange conferences, Kuk Po’s culture will be promoted in cities and overseas. The project will culminate in a large-scale countryside festival, attracting visitors from various regions to promote Hakka and village culture while fostering sustainable eco-tourism development.

Project Update
The "City of Harvest" event series kicked off in November 2025!
The first phase of the programme featured "The Captures from 1940s ‧ Photographic Exhibition on the Connection of Villages in Sha Tau Kok", held at Sheung Shui and Fanling Public Libraries from November to December 2025. This exhibition successfully brought the historic charm of village life into the modern city.
Subsequently, the project moves to Sham Shui Po from January to February 2026 with the event "Pop-up Village in City - 1.5 kilometers of Encounters Between Countryside and City". Inspired by a "1.5km Village Market Journey in Kuk Po", this event brings Hakka flavours, traditional crafts, and stories into the city, inviting the public to embark on a cultural route connecting the countryside and the city. Key highlights include: Hakka Cuisine in the City, Exhibitions, Stamp Collection and Self-Guided Urban-Rural Walking Trail etc.
