"Villages Get Together": Connecting Rural, Urban, and Regional Areas Through Culture
Project Description
Building on the outcomes of the “Co-Building Kuk Po: Creating, Sharing, Learning & Enjoying” project, completed in March 2025, the project organisation will first establish the “Kai Choi Modern School” to engage and empower villagers on village revitalisation. Additionally, a “Twin Villages” programme will be created to strengthen inter-village connections and systematically preserve Kuk Po cultural heritage. Through urban exhibitions, pop-up stores, and local and online international countryside exchange conferences, Kuk Po’s culture will be promoted in cities and overseas. The project will culminate in a large-scale countryside festival, attracting visitors from various regions to promote Hakka and village culture while fostering sustainable eco-tourism development.

Project Update
Following the successful conclusion of the "City of Harvest" series in early 2026, the project team will present the "Village Early Summer Arts Fest 2026: Be One of Us" from May to June 2026 in Kuk Po, Yung Shue Au and Lai Chi Wo. With an ecocentric approach at its core, the festival features a series of immersive experiences to attract the public to visit the villages and experience the beauty of the Hong Kong's countryside.
Key programmes include the "I Can Hear You" Art Project, "Kai Choi School” Early Summer Special Courses, and the "I am the Hakka King" Orienteering Challenge. Artists will reside in Kuk Po to transform local rhythms into creations, expanding into interdisciplinary classroom experiences that engage participants in community-building while exploring Hakka culture and natural surroundings.
