Sai Kung Catholic Churches and Villages Cultural Walks Construction Program

Project Description

With using the 10 diocese-owned Sai Kung historical chapels as nodal points, the project organisation worked in joint hands with the relevant stakeholders to formulate a series of historical, cultural, and ecological walking trails in different level of difficulties and themes, and promoted village culture and ecological conservation by the experiential learning activities in the chapels and the surroundings.

Project Update

The project was completed on 15 April 2023.

Project Outcome

On stakeholder engagement, 6 principals, 184 teaching staff and 63 students from universities, secondary schools, primary schools and kindergartens participated in the design and planning process of the walking trail.

On effectiveness of the proposed conservation initiatives, 110 education bodies expressed interest in the walk and 8 of them even arranged education activities along the proposed routes.

More than 2 600 personal and online attendees were recorded in the 30 project activities, with 70% of the participants agreed that the walking trail brought positive behaviour change and knowledge enhancement on countryside conservation.
