From Valley to Plain II: Architectural Rehabilitation for Integrated, Co-creative Eco-living Experience in Tin Sum Village, Kuk Po

Proponent: The Chinese University of Hong Kong
Site: Kuk Po

Project Description

In a previously completed project: "From Valley to Plain Phase I", the project team formed a multi-disciplinary academic team, restored and enhanced a Kuk Po village house and its surroundings for field surveys and an education base camp. Besides, the project team also collaborated with the local villagers to experiment with a sustainable partnership model to promote countryside conservation and curate various activities and exhibitions, in order to revive the scenery and lifescape of the countryside village.

Now, the project wishes to copy this model to the some 90-year-old hybrid Lees' Mansion and its ancillary buildings in Tin Sum, to support inter-disciplinary academic research, practice sustainable farming and enhance the sustainable development of the building cluster and the nearby farmlands, alongside the joint-curation of experiential living and culture activities with the villagers, in order to integrate the concept of sustainability with village cultures and living, and further develop the extent and depth of countryside conservation.
