From Valley to Plain II: The Story of Lee Mansion in Tin Sum, Kuk Po

Lees' Mansion was built by the capital earned by a villager who went to the United States to make a living in the 1930s. The village houses constructed by then were influenced by the architectural styles in the West and were different from the traditional Hakka row house. Lees' Mansion is a two-storey, three-bay structure. Fronted by a forecourt for drying crops, the mansion features a tiled gable roof in Chinese architectural style and a terrace with parapet wall ornamented with pediments in the form of cirrus cloud.

In 1967, the house owner Mr. Lee Muk Sing worked in the urban area with commuting from Kuk Po on a daily basis until 1970s, when he officially moved out. In 2020, he and his wife decided to return to Kuk Po and rehabilitate the farmland surrounding the Mansion with an aim to revitalize the homeland, with hopes given to their dreams by the project of "From Valley to Plain II". The project restored the Mansion by repairing the roof beams, rectifying the water leakage problem, improving natural ventilation, restoring its original architectural features and style, rendering it fit for modern living. The restored Mansion is accessible to the public for 3 more years upon project completion and will organise various activities for eco-living and cultural conservation.
