Cultural Revitalisation Project at Fu Tei Au Tsuen
Project Description
Despite being no indigenous village, yet Fu Tei Au Tsuen in Sheung Shui is home to numerous invaluable historical relics that bear witness to its rich and unique cultural history. To protect and pass on this cultural heritage, the project team transformed a villager's house into an engaging story house that preserves the historical documentation and valuable artefacts of the village and raises public awareness and appreciation towards rural culture through the vivid and lively curation.
The project team also enabled the villagers and the public to participate in the cultural inheritance process through organising various activities e.g. guided tours, oral history interviews and community arts programme, etc. that built an exchange platform between the past & present and the tradition & innovation, as well as promoted the idea exchange and sustainable development in the community.

Project Outcome
The project organisation successfully recovered the colourful histories and folklore of the non-indigenous village at Fu Tei Au Tsuen. To enable public appreciation on these important cultural assets, an abandoned village house was restored and adaptively re-used as a Story House to showcase the exhibits. The free-admission Story House provides venue for workshops and activities, and serves as a new gathering place in the community.
To allow a more extensive coverage, promotional videos for Fu Tei Au Tsuen are produced to enhance the promotion on the village. The promotional video showing the highlights of the village is on regular display in the Story House to enrich visitor with more lively and interesting experiences.
Throughout the project period, 41 workshops on traditional craftsmanship, 6 community markets and 50 guided tours were organised, with more than 710, 1,800 and 680 participants recorded respectively.
