Water drain-down and number of birds
According to past studies under two fishpond Management Agreement projects, the management work of water drain-down in fishponds has effectively increased the diversity and abundance of waterbirds. Data from the bird baseline survey reflect that the cumulative number of bird species has increased from approximately 60 species in 2012 to about 262 species in 2025, an increase of more than 4 times, 23 of which are species rated on the "International Union for Conservation of Nature Red List of Threatened Species". In addition, the number of birds in fishponds that have been drained down has increased approximately 20 times compared to fishponds without drain-down.
