From Valley to Plain: An introduction to Geography and Ecology
Kuk Po is surrounded by mountains on three sides, with the remaining side facing Sha Tau Kok Hoi and Yantian Port. In the village it is fronted by a green and lush mangrove forest and a large area of abandoned farmland, with scattered village houses and undulating hills at the backdrop. Strolling in the village through the shaded footpaths and along the burbling stream, you will see the traces of farming activities in the past among the groups of village houses, amidst the diversified natural environment and ecology of sea, reivers and mountains of Kuk Po as the habitats for a variety of plants and animals, with some of which being the endangered species. Besides, the nature bestows the villagers with the habitable environment and satisfies the basic needs for living.
The report (Chinese version only) aims to introduce the natural environment and ecology of Kuk Po, including its geology, topography, habitats (e.g. Fung Shui Woods, Mangroves, etc.), and natural resources. The report also explores the relationship between the environment, natural resources, and the people living in the area and how they interact with each other.
