Collaboration with fishpond operators

Hong Kong is located on the flight path of the East Asian-Australasian Flyway. The Deep Bay Wetland attracts more than 50,000 passing waterbirds (migratory birds) every year from September to April of the following year. The cumulative number of passing waterbirds (migratory birds) has reached more than 160 species, and fishpond operators provide food for a large number of migratory birds when they clear ponds for harvest. The project organisation worked with fishpond operators to conduct drain-down after "fish scraping" (industry terminology, harvesting pond fish), and planted various types of plants on pond bunds to attract passage migrants and local waterbirds to inhabit and breed.
