Collaboration with fishpond operators

Hong Kong is located on the flight path of the East Asian-Australasian Flyway. The Deep Bay Wetland attracts more than 50,000 passing waterbirds (migratory birds) from September to April of the following year. The cumulative number of migratory waterbirds has reached more than 160 species, and fishpond operators provide food for a large number of migratory birds when they clear ponds for harvest. The project organisation worked with fishpond operators to maintain drained water levels after "fish scraping" (industry terminology, which means harvesting of pond fish) to attract passage migrants and local waterbirds to inhabit and breed.
