Biodiversity in fishponds

With funding from the Countryside Conservation Funding Scheme, approximately 500 hectares of fishponds in Deep Bay have participated in the "Fishpond Conservation Scheme in the Ramsar Site" and "Hong Kong Got Fishpond - Eco-fishpond Management Agreement Scheme". Habitat management work is being carried out in commercially operated fishponds to enhance their ecological value and maintain their appeal to wildlife, particularly by providing more habitats and food sources for water birds. Since the first phase of the programme in 2012, in the baseline survey, a total of 256 bird species have been recorded within the fishponds, demonstrating the rich biodiversity present in the fishponds under the project.
