Lai Chi Wo River Cleaning

Teamwork Makes the Dream Work

The Countryside Conservation Office (CCO) emphasises building strong relationships with villagers to foster long-term cooperation. We view villagers as important team members and deeply respect their customs and traditions.

Lai Chi Wo has a rich history of annually tidying up their streams. Villagers come together to contribute their time and effort, ensuring a consistent water supply for farmland throughout the year, which benefits the entire community. Unfortunately, this tradition has been suspended for years due to the migration of villagers.

To revive this meaningful custom, CCO initiated a team-building event in 2019. Alongside village representative Mr. Tsang and other villagers, we spent a beautiful afternoon cleaning the riverbeds, removing obstacles and stones that would later be used for road and house construction. Due to the remoteness of the location, all the hard works need to be done manually, which make the task even more challenging. By the end of the day, everyone was soaked with water and sweat, but we forged strong bonds with the villagers, reaffirming us as part of the team, consolidating the foundation of our plans in future together.
