Yellow-breasted bunting

The yellow-breasted bunting is a migratory bird. As it feeds on rice, it was once considered a pest and was hunted in large numbers for food. In just a dozen years, its status has moved from "very common" to "critically endangered", causing conservation concerns.

Under the nature management agreement, Ho Sheung Heung has become an important conservation area for the Yellow-breasted bunting. The project organisation cultivates rice and deliberately leaves part of the rice unharvested for the migratory birds to rest and feed on.
