Water Level Monitoring in Mai Po

Managing water levels is an important part of maintaining wetlands and keeping them in prime condition. Most wetland species are extremely sensitive to water levels. For example, different shorebird species have varying preferences for water depth based on their leg length. Therefore, adjusting water levels when appropriate can improve overall wetland function.

The project organisation have installed water level sensors in Mai Po Nature Reserve. The Internet of Things (IoT) system provides wetland management staff useful information that supports their water level adjustment decisions, ensuring the ponds and gei wai remain suitable for waterbirds.
