The Story of Kuk Po Co‑building (Kuk Po Stewardship)
How to advance Kuk Po's sustainable development and ongoing village-community exchanges?
The project team partnered with engineering student volunteers from local University. Guided by professional engineers, they worked alongside villagers to address urgent repairs, specifically tackling leaking eaves and termite damage in the village houses of Lo Wai. Through hands-on scraping, plastering, and painting, students and villagers resolved water seepage issues in ancestral homes while acquiring sustainable maintenance skills.
Community building begins with a deep understanding of the village, analysing needs through five dimensions: people, culture, land, industry, and landscape. Through inclusive dialogue among villagers, youth, and the public, a consensus is being built to enhance housing safety and long-term village vitality, ensuring that Kuk Po’s heritage and lifestyle thrive for generations to come.
