Story of Mrs. Wang
The old woman "Mrs. Wang", who lives in the upper and lower district of Ma On Shan Village, is mostly a fellow villager of Chaozhou with other villagers. Because she is familiar with the nearby villagers, the place where she lives is close to the roadside, and it has become a "resting place" for the villagers. some villagers often walked into the house to say hello to her and put down several bags of belongings.
As long as there are people in the house, they can walk in at any time. This house is like stay in a time of the past, the neighbors seemed to be family. Mrs. Wang, who is over 80 years old, speaks a mixture of Chaozhou and Cantonese, and has come to Hong Kong with her husband in her twenties. Her husband was working in the Ma On Shan Iron Mine at the time, and Mrs. Wang focused on taking care of the family, raising five children, all of whom were studying at St. Joseph's Primary School in Ma On Shan Village. Even though her children will move away when they grow up, Mrs. Wang still stays in Ma On Shan Village, where she gathers with relatives and friends during festivals, she will use the leeks she grows to make "Chaozhou leek cakes", and also make traditional Teochew foods such as "Chaozhou shrimp and dates". She lives a leisurely life in Ma On Shan Village with growing vegetables and watching Chaozhou opera with the villagers.
