Small Residents in an Abandoned Village
Ngau Shi Wu Village is geographically remote. With social changes over time, its population gradually left, and the village is now abandoned, blending seamlessly with the surrounding trees and vines.
Although no one lives there anymore, the tranquil environment attracts a variety of small creatures to settle in. If you pause and look closely within the deserted village, you may spot spider webs swaying in the breeze, glinting with faint rainbow colours; perched on the webs are spiders no larger than a grain of rice.
Spiders are often regarded with fear, yet in the ecosystem they are predators high on the food chain. Their population density and distribution directly reflect the abundance of prey resources in the habitat—mainly small insects—thereby indicating the overall health of the local ecosystem.
