Natural Pig Feed — “Chu Gu Nim”

Blood-Red Melastoma (Chu Gu Nim) typically grows along hillsides, forest edges, ravines, grasslands, and low shrub areas. For Hakka communities living in the uplands, this plant was traditionally used as pig feed.

Pigs that ate red Blood-Red Melastoma grew quickly and put on weight, so Hakka villagers gave the plant a vivid nickname: “Chu Gu Nim”. (“Chu gu” means boar)
