National Ecology Day 2024
This project officially launched on 1 July 2024. As 15 August every year has been designated as "National Ecology Day," the project organisation organised two free eco-tours for the public at the Mai Po Nature Reserve on 16 August 2024, to respond to and enhance public awareness of ecological civilisation and environmental protection. Participants first learned about the importance of the Deep Bay mudflats and Gei Wais to the ecological environment. Subsequently, the speaker introduced participants to modern technologies, such as how the Internet of Things and wireless technology can be applied in conservation work. For example, water level sensors and water quality monitors are installed at multiple locations within the Mai Po Nature Reserve to remotely obtain real-time, precise water level and quality data, allowing for timely management actions. Last but not least, under the guidance of interpreters, participants explored and experienced this wetland habitat with its unique biodiversity in person.
