Mobile Toilet

With the increasing number of tourists in Lai Chi Wo, the demand for public toilet facilities has grown. Therefore, the project organisation added mobile toilets to the village with conducting market research before procurement to select the most suitable mobile toilets for the local context.

In general, mobile toilets are divided into three types: flush toilets, dry toilets and composting toilets. Although composting toilets do not require waste removal and have lower running costs, the product is not yet common in the market. Dry toilets need more frequent cleaning of waste compared to flush toilets, that the cleaning workers may be hindered by the remote location of Lai Chi Wo. During the research process, the project organisation fully listened to the opinions and suggestions of the villagers and tried to involve them in the decision-making process as much as possible.

Considering various factors such as rental costs, sanitary conditions and convenience, the project organisation ultimately chose the flush mobile toilets. Two mobile toilets were placed near the West Gate of Lai Chi Wo village and were available for public service from November 2022 to May 2023.
