Impression of the mining village

The current Ma On Shan New Town was once a sea. Heng On Estate and Yiu On Estate are close to Ma On Shan. They were the Pier District of the former seaside mining villages. And also had mining office. Most of the villagers who live there are from Guangdong Province. The core of the Pier District is a "commercial and residential" community, which is both a residence and a market. The densely packed tin houses and wooden houses are close to each other, with undulating roofs. Later, more and more people came to "settlement" here. Some villagers chose to build houses in the Hongnitang(黃泥塘) (also known as Huangnitang(紅泥塘) area. There were also villagers living next to the iron ore powder pile in the Pier District. Miss Ao was one of them.

In the past, Ms. Ao loved catching shrimps in the stream near her home, or going to the beach to look at crabs and dig clam. She felt that the Pier District was the most lively and busy place in the village because it was possible to take a boat out to the city , take the car up the mountain, and there are supermarkets, grocery stores, barber shops and different types of shops, as well as restaurants, including the "Feida Tea Room" (飛達茶餐室) and "Maohe Ice Room"(茂和冰室) that are familiar to the villagers. The villagers can also buy directly Fish landed on the pier.

Miss Ao used to study at the Catholic "St. Joseph's Primary School" in the Pier District, which consists of a church, a primary school building, and a nunnery. There is a kindergarten in the nunnery, a playground in the school, and sports meets every year.
