Commoning Practices In Hong Kong

Hong Kong's rural villages hold centuries of history with countless untold stories hidden within the brick and tiles. From being forgotten to rediscovered, what have Hong Kong's remote rural villages experienced on their journey of revitalisation? What challenges do villagers face?

The project organisation has identified four villages as the research sites, which are Kau Sai Fishermen Village, Po Toi, So Lo Pun, and Yung Shue Au. In addition to several site visits, focus group sessions with village communities, the project organisation also invited villagers to personally share their organisational structure for handling village matters and the activities organised by the villagers, as well as the revitalisation process, to allow the general public to gain a deeper understanding of how villagers approached village revitalisation by taking into account their common goals, shared resources, and stakeholders, and learn more about their needs and the challenges they have faced. The public also participated in "Village Commons” Co-creation Workshop, where they were able to talk and interact with villagers, and jointly created shared commons to respond to the needs and challenges of villagers, emphasising the significance of stakeholder collaboration in achieving a balance between the villagers' needs and the overall well-being of all involved parties.
