Apple Snails
Occasionally, you can find clusters of pink "mini grapes" at the Sha Lo Tung wetland. They are, in fact, the eggs of Apple Snails. Could you guess whether beautiful Apple Snails will bring blessings or disasters to the environment? Native to the Amazon River basin in South America, Apple Snail is an invasive alien species, which is highly adaptable and can reproduce in large numbers, mainly feeding on rice and other crops, affecting plant growth. The project organisation of Sha Lo Tung mainly relies on manual removal or use of natural Camellia seed powder to remove Apple snails to maintain the balance of the wetland ecosystem of Sha Lo Tung.
