Water Level Monitoring
The objective of water level monitoring is to ensure the availability of appropriate roost sites for waterbirds throughout the tidal cycle and under different conditions. The project organisation have installed several water level sensors in Mai Po Nature Reserve. The sensor utilises ultrasonic technology to precisely estimate water level. The real-time data of water level is then transmitted for analysis through IoT technology to facilitate water level adjustments, ultimately improves wetland management efficiency.

The objective of buffalo tracking is to monitor buffaloes' location within the Reserve. Buffalo grazing has been an effective freshwater habitat management tool in wetland conservation. Also, geo-fence and alert system are set up to prevent buffalos from straying out of the designated area.

Government-Wide IoT Network (GWIN)
With the support from Electrical and Mechanical Services Department, four Government-Wide IoT Network (GWIN) gateways were installed at Mai Po Nature Reserve. The Internet of Things (IoT) sensors at Mai Po Nature Reserve, including buffalo trackers, water level and water quality sensors, are connected to these four or other nearby installed gateways via the low power and private Long Range (LoRa) network for data transfer, greatly improving the feasibility and reliability of data transmission.
