"Reviving Hong Kong's Ocean Heritage: Our Forgotten Oyster Reefs" Exhibition

Event Introduction

Oyster reefs were once widely distributed along the coast of Hong Kong, providing habitats for marine life, improving water quality, and helping to reduce coastal erosion. However, these valuable ecosystems have now almost disappeared, becoming one of the most endangered marine habitats in the world.

“Reviving Hong Kong’s Ocean Heritage: Our Forgotten Oyster Reefs” will be held from July 16 to August 30, 2025, at the 3/F Creative Gallery, eslite spectrum Tsim Sha Tsui. Through informative visuals, the exhibition introduces the ecological role of oyster reefs in improving water quality, supporting marine life, and protecting coastlines. Visitors can also watch the documentary City of Shells, which explores the science and urgency behind oyster reef restoration. This exhibition is organized by The Nature Conservancy (TNC), a global conservation non-profit dedicated to protecting nature and preserving life on Earth. Learn more at tnc.org.hk.
