Sung's Patio: Old Wall Conservation Workshop

Event Introduction

With the support of Countryside Conservation Funding Scheme and Countryside Conservation Office, Sung's Patio in Kuk Po has officially opened to the public after six months of restoration. The site showcases the spatial evolution of Kuk Po's century-old multi-modular bay courtyard house and illustrates the dialogue between the material textures of the building walls and natural forces such as tree roots and weathering. The courtyard features towering trees intertwined with roots and vines, complemented by sunlight filtering through the gaps in the foliage, creating a picturesque interplay of light and shadow. The design skillfully integrates the light-shadow effects of stone walls with the undulating terrain, offering a unique garden experience through pavilions and terraces.

To celebrate National Ecology Day, the HKU Center for Chinese Architecture is conducting a special workshop. This event aims to educate the public about the project's conservation strategy and basic knowledge of wall conservation techniques, allowing participants to engage in hands-on wall restoration activities on-site.
