Commoning Around The World

Communal organisation and collective use of resources have long been a part of the economic life of rural communities around the world.

The project organisation has conducted a series of international case studies, including Taiwan region of China, South Korea, Indonesia, India, Sweden, France and Italy, to depict a variety of commoning practices that support and foster the revitalisation of rural village communities. From the analysis of the case studies, six key findings are derived: (i) Establishing Village Association as Commoning Structure, (ii) Expanding Definition of Community, (iii) Navigating Power Relations, (iv) Transforming Old Commons to New, (v) Forming New Models of Rural Practices, and (vi) Fostering Stewardship through Capacity Building, which provide the framework for research on village commoning in Hong Kong and facilitate collaboration among stakeholders.
